    PS - a word on figs, which are absolutely fascinating. you'll never see a flower on a fig tree, so how do they pollinate? the answer is that the figs themselves are flowers, and they rely on the convoluted life-cycle of a specific type of wasp called a fig wasp, which burrows in and out of them. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fig_wasp#Life_Cycle
