RIM rolls out new french headwear inspired range...
Thanks Tom for this story:
This just happened, about 15 feet from me.
Senior Executive: What’s the box in my office?
Executive Assistant: It arrived this morning.
SE goes to office to open box, and returns holding a hat.SE:
It’s a hat. Do you know why I’ve been sent a hat? EA:
Ah – good. It’s the black beret you asked for. SE:
Black beret? I don’t remember asking for a black beret. EA:
Before you went to Singapore last week. You asked me to get you a new black beret. SE:
[cracks up laughing] Ah. I think I said “Blackberry”. EA:
[looks sheepish] oh.

They called it what?
Also, I'm never quite sure if it's a good thing I don't remember the eighties. Who knows.

Pop Quiz
Personally I'm thinking 11, if they're organised. Two for each arm, three for each leg, and one to kick you when you're down...

Vampires, zombies, oh my.
If you like "graphic novels" then you might like this. Not exactly jaw-droppingly brilliant, but entertaining enough. It's still got about 20 pages to go, but they're adding two or three a week, so that ain't too irritating.
And more stuff you really should have seen by now on the internet;
- Superman is a dick. If that's news to you, start here.
- TOTSE which is full of weird, weird stuff.

The Basics
More stuff you really have to know about in order to get your Internet license:
- From the now sadly defunct adequacy.org, Is your son a computer hacker?
- The Chick Tracts. I'd link to my favourite, but there are so many! (etc)
- Everyone's seen uncyclopedia (right?) but what about Conservapedia. Just as funny, but it's not satire!
- Timecube - behold the mind of a schizophrenic set down for you to read. Worrying.
More to follow, when I think of it.
Also, apropos of nothing, more crazy hi-fi stuff!
And, finally, weird, weird, weird (don't blame me if you watch the videos)

Making Bristol students seem classy
For the few who don't read xkcd, this strip has resulted in this set of photos (which you might not want to view in the office.)
Woahh! Holy shit.
(oh, yeah, and apropos the XKCD thing, google "Rule 34" at your peril...)

loads of cool discussions eg by johnny haidt on the psychological underpinnings of morality and how they vary across the political spectrum, some dude with big hair on genius, that cool company that makes computers analyse pop tracks to tell in advance whether they'll get to number one, and a chat by some dude regarding that ultimate god game thats called spawn or sperm or whatever it is
George Carlin - hicksian poet
you may recognise him as Rufus from Bill and Ted. it turns out he's also a highly scathing, dark, political comedian. and most importantly, very funny. Calling him hicksian is unfair since he predates hicks, but you'll see the similarity - all to the good

You're a depreciating asset
Additionally, $7k speaker cables? ONE MILLION DOLLARS if you can prove an objective difference. Awesome review thereof

Existentialist Peanuts
Bonus: The collected idiocy of the BBC's message boards. You see these people in the street every day.
Oh, and this looks way more scary than when Lance Henriksen did it. (This is the same idea, but somehow less terrifying. Possibly because it isn't trying to simultaneously work out where your fingers are...)
(first video in high res, using incredibly annoying quicktime plugin on their website)

But also handy.
Oh, also, Face robot. Not that weird until you watch the second video. I'm assuming that white stuff is human skin.

Scifi on the internets
(Even more incidentally, Accelerando is available for legal free download)
Also I quite liked this sequence of short stories;
- Passages in the Void
- The Passage Home
- Rite of Passage (optional side story, that ain't all that great, imho)
- Mortal Passage
- Revelation Passage
My first goatse
And if you have to ask what goatse is, then JFGI. Say here (but not at work, probably). And experience the 8 phases of goatse.
